Obsession

What is obsession? How is it caused? What are the effects of this? These are some of the questions that one needs to know in order that he can lead a spiritually-free life, and avoid needless sorrows that are linked with the evils of obsession.

When you live exclusively for the things of the world, and materialism becomes a way of life, then you have traded your inner happiness for something that is so transient and empty, and which can only render you troubles and sorrows. The literal meaning of obsession is passion or fixation. This means that when a person is obsessed about something he is said to be possessed by that thing. A person obsessed has no power over his own mind and feelings. Deep down he is unhappy and restless because there is some sort an evil power that has latched on to him which is causing this uncontrollable urge in him to keep asking for more. A part of his being is crying out for respite from this terrible power. He tries to curb his desires but his spirit is weak, and is quickly crushed by the overpowering influence that has possessed his mind.

Addiction is another name for this. The people who are spiritually impoverished have no self-command; they are usually the hapless victims of the wrong influences. It often starts off with a simple desire to have something or to do something, and then once you have it you want more of it. If this urge is not checked in time it can become uncontrollable, and before you know it you are a slave to your cravings. Most habits turn to obsessions, leading to self-destruction.

Let us look at this from the spiritual point of view. In the unseen reality, the spheres of the Earth are teeming with the dark elementals that lived on Earth once as human beings, possessed by wild desires and cravings, who indulged in all kinds of gustatory and carnal debauchery until he descended into a pre-animal-like condition. There is no release in the other world as well for he continues to thirst for these conditions in the astral world as well. But to fulfill these he needs to have the physical body. The burning lust drives him to look for physical bodies of human beings on Earth which would serve as an instrument through which they can continue to indulge in the unholy activities. This is how atrocious crimes and wars are created on Earth. The thirst for revenge, anger and extreme hatred drives the disembodied beings to possess the like-minded minds of men to execute their dastardly and horrific deeds on Earth.  

Taking advantage of man’s spiritual ignorance the entities of the dark regions have taken possession over the minds of several people from all walks of life ranging from the poorest to the most affluent and influential of them all, and the latter pose as even more dangerous to mankind and the planet with the masters of evil to prompt them into executing hideous atrocities in the world. Moreover, these are the people whom the common man looks upon as their heroes and role models. Because of acute spiritual blindness, man plays easily into the hands of the demonic power that obsesses him and keeps him enslaved until death. And after death because of his attunement with the evil he will be quickly led to the dark abysmal regions to be in the company of those who possessed him during his earthly sojourn. These ones who are lying in wait for him to join him in astral will gleefully pounce on him and rend his spirit – a veritable hell of his own making!

Man is millions of years old, and yet pre-animal-like conditions are still known on earth. The earth would change instantly when man would part with his possessions. Man needs to see the truth in order to believe what is going on behind the scenes; it would shock him beyond words if he were to behold the ugly truth behind the apparently normal situations. And even then, to change from impiety to righteousness, he would need greater determination, perseverance and a strong will-power to break free from the treacherous hold of the dark monsters. It is very difficult yet possible, for God condemns no man; every being has a chance and a potential to rise into the Light; it is only a question of when.

In this age where darkness has covered the entire planet, it is easy for the demons to rule the roost on Earth. There is very little resistance on the part of mankind to ward away the negative influences that provoke the mind with wrong desires and dark emotions. However, a person who has reached a certain level of spiritualism is protected by his light which he strives to keep ablaze within and all around himself by devoting his time to prayers, meditation, practising righteousness and applying higher understanding under all circumstances. It is thus so important not to give in to passion and extreme emotions of anger, hatred and the like because when you give in to emotions of lower frequency, they dissipate the positive energy that you have built around you and with that you become vulnerable to the evil that rush to get control over you. You may have noticed that under such situations, a person refuses to see sense or be willing to seek peace, and under intense rage, there is a complete change in the person’s demeanour and personality, which is not of himself. Under such circumstances he is capable of doing anything for which he would have to sorely repent for later on.

Love, tolerance and peace are the tools that you can use against situations or persons that insinuate into resorting to violence of temperament. Your battle must always be against the dark forces, and not against any person or situation, and the only weapon that you need to wield against the enemies of Light is Love. It is the most powerful force that can send the dark forces fleeing for cover. It is the power that builds a strong shied of protection around you, which no outside force can shatter, except yourself, that is, when you give in to emotions and feelings that are opposed to the Light.
