Your personality plays an important part in the making of a respectable character. Your mannerisms, the way you dress, your posture, speech, tonal quality of your voice all this goes into the building up of a good personality. A highly refined mind will not recourse to any kind of vulgarity or untidiness. Spirituality and personal finesse go hand in hand and complement each other. You cannot have one without the other in the making of a respectable, dynamic persona. Let us then analyse the factors that make up a fine personality. Such a one exudes a dazzling aura that has a striking effect on others who come into contact with him. His mannerisms are genial and pleasing, underlined with humility; his speech is articulated and refined that rings with a mellifluous tonality. His laughter, whole and hearty; his humour, clean and witty; coarse jokes, and jokes made at the expense of others that are meant to be vindictive and hurtful are not his style; he keeps away from all that is indicative of pain, crudity and mental disorder.
Peace and compassion are the signature tune of his life. Honesty and being true to one’s self is a criterion in developing a strong personality. He will do nothing that will diminish the luminosity of his light. And then, out of the right speaking and the right thinking, inevitably must flow right acting; that, as an outcome, must be the result of this flowing forth from the source. For action is only the manifestation of that which is within, and where the thought is pure, where the speech is true and right, there the action must inevitably be noble; out of such sweet source the water can only be sweet in the flowing, out of the heart and the brain that have been purified necessarily the action must be right and good.
The demeanour of such a noble soul in times of crises is mature and calm, which helps him to act rationally to get the situation under control. He will never hesitate to risk his life to save others. There is a greater sense of duty that overrides all fears and doubts. He owes his allegiance strictly to God alone; he is not driven by the affectations of the world, which is known to extol or lower the morality of people based on fickle judgment. Doing things just to please others is a sign of weakness and lack of self-confidence. A person who is strong mentally and spiritually does not care to please others for the sake of winning their superficial affection and flattery.
He is secure in the strength of his spirit, and does not need the flimsy support of people’s conditional love and sweet talk to boost his morale. All these work well with the ego and not with the spirit. The ego needs to thrive on vanity, and will do anything to gain that. However, a person who has developed a strong personality is usually ego-free. This is why he can think from his heart, and make choices that can enhance his spiritual progress. He lives to please his inner self that seeks to attain the Kingdom of God, and stops not to pander the whims of his ego or the egos of others.
This way he is free to live by the rights of his own divine self, and thus save himself from needless sorrows and disappointments. Perfection is possible for us because immortality is a fact; we have all eternity before us in which to work, and yet we have no time to lose; for the sooner we begin to live the Buddhic way, the sooner we shall be in a position to do the work of the Christ/Buddha, and to range ourselves among the saviours and the helpers of the world.
