The mind is ever engaged in random thoughts whenever it is idle. Most of these thoughts are meaningless and often destructive in nature. An untrained mind usually takes off on a trip of its own, fabricating and conniving situations that are far from real, and which are often based on prejudices and fears. With that, a whole lot of negative emotions start to churn within the being; worries and tensions rob you of your peace and wellbeing. In order to increase your mind-power and to use it to your utmost benefit, you will need to spend your time and conscious effort to monitor your thoughts. Keep your mind on an invisible leash because your mind, like a vagrant, is habituated to wandering from one place to another, never holding itself still even for a moment. A flighty mind is no good for anything. Such a mind is unable to gather any power, which can be used to create a wholesome life.
Exercise restraint over your mind, and keep it from harbouring disgruntled thoughts about people and things. Negative thoughts must be replaced by pleasant ones. Do not dwell in thoughts that cause agitation within you. Divert your attention to things that are more meaningful to you in life, and by which you can derive much peace. Train your mind to be still when it is racked with a host of thoughts that jostle each other for want of attention and recognition. The trick is to avoid resistance; fighting with unwanted thoughts makes it even more difficult to attain peace. Allow them to have their way until they are exhausted. Refrain from paying heed to any of these; they will automatically withdraw, defeated and powerless.
